Flowering shrub id?

smiviesDecember 5, 2012

If anyone knows, I'd appreciate the help. I thought it might be Exochorda but there don't seem to be enough flower petals.

The plant is ~15' tall and arches to ~15' wide. Flowering time is early-mid June in zone 5.

Thanks

Yes but your comment about the five petals threw me, as my Philadelphus have four...
I like the 'what the FF'!

Thanks....the large size of the plant, lack of fragrance, and rather large flowers left me stumped.

It's certainly not P. coronarius or its hybrids.

Sorry Ken, no leaf photos...will have to wait until next year.

i have 5 different philadelphus ...

the first two.. came in the old fashion plastic sleeves.. 13 years ago ...

a bazillion flowers ... flowers not quite as large as these ... and just about no aroma ...

variegated ones.. tend to be low on scent also ... and frankly .. low on variegation ...

but the one i named at the link.. you could smell from 100 feet upwind ...

Definitely a Philadelphus, probably P. inodorus.
