air compressor problem

rbiggApril 10, 2011

For some reason, I have two air compressors (different sizes and kinds), that both have new el cheapo chucks on them. Both refuse to deliver air into "flats".

I theorize that the new chucks won't trigger without some air in the tire.

Is this indication right? Seems like flats don't provide much in the way of stem pressure on their valves. Maybe my chucks don't/can't overcome this.

So, what do I do? Throw the chuck away.......

And, go to what? What kind of gizmo allows you to inflate flat tires? Something that gives a squirt of air, no matter the pressure inside the tire....

Give me ideas/thoughts....

There are clip-on chucks, at your auto parts store.
I'm guessing that you are trying to inflate tube type
tires. You may have to hold the valve stem with pliers
while attaching the chuck, until you get some air in,
which will then hold them out.

I feel a chuck that will allow you to add air w/o the valve stem would work. Attached is what I think will work from Northern Tool. I also think you can add some initial air with a compressed air nozzle with a rubber nose. Holding the stem with needle nose pliers might be the best solution, as mentioned. Good Luck! loger
