The gear oil appeared to be foamy. I could not find a drain plug so I sucked the oil out and replaced it. The mower will not move forward or reverse. What did I do wrong?
Model # 917 271131
check yer owners manual. may be a procedure in there for getting entrapped air out of hydro tranny oil - usually consists of pulling the hydro disconnect lever/rod, then cycling the running tranny thru full full forward back thru neutral to full reverse a half-dozen times. but READ THE MANUAL FIRST before you hurt the machine, someone or you.
Well my manual does not have that info and I cannot find it online. Can you tell me where to look?
Since a 917.271131 is a 6 speed manual, you either have a drive belt issue or something is broken internally.
Did it move before? Is it in gear?
Is the pulley ON the transaxle turning? (possible missing key?)

you got me, bill.... shoulda looked up the danged thing.
Hey thanks guys. The key had fallen out when I put the gear back on. I checked that to but guess I missed it. Works greaat!
I have a 2004 Craftsman LT2000. It has the hydro tranny. Who makes it? Thanks!
tomp55 - a look with a trouble light up around the tranny case should find a plate/decal with the mfgr's name/model/sn on it...
or go online to sears parts - sometimes the tranny mfgr's name is mentioned in the the p/l lit.....
