replacement legs for plant grids

mrtulinMay 7, 2014

The metal legs that hold up the hoop/grid have gotten bent and are unusable.
Has anyone figured out how to make replacements? They need a way to attach them to the grid.
Bosmere sells them, 3 for 4 bucks, but shipping is $12.
Please hurry, the poppies are getting tall!

hey ida ... long time.. no time. ..

dont have a clue what you are referring to ... and googling your title ... brings up a lot of barbeque links ... so i cant intuit for you ...

i recall your historic house... i have to think you have some old fashioned REAL hardware stores around ..

take one in.. and ask them if they have any bendable wire that can be used for your repair ... probably get about 50 miles of it for $12 bucks ...

use your yankee ingenuity ...

ps: and take your shovels in for sharpening while you are at it... if you cant do such at home ...

I have seen such things. I don't remember gory details, but it would be something like coat hanger wire with something like a corkscrew at one end. About a turn and a half, fairly tightly wound. Then the outside of the grid twists into the center.

Bending the wire may be more trouble than it's worth, but whatever....

thats what i though ...

see link ...

and rust proof ... until you bend it.. lol ...

see if your local hardware has or can get such ...

i can picture a display at my own ace hardware .... with various rods ... @ 3 foot.. seems like you could get two 1.5 feet rods ... and twist them with pliers ... its in the same display that they have threaded rods ....

aluminum would be easier to work with than steel .. and also be rust proof ...

And you were thinking protheses....
I will bring one into the hardware store and get help.
Sometimes I am too lazy to think for myself.
Speaking of replacements, I got myself a new knee in February.
It is dandy: it bends, pushes and stands at attention with
no protests.
OT, but I just can't help myself!!

ps: i once stopped the local plumber [we bump into each other at events in our small town] .. and asked him.. offhand.. if he knew which brand kitchen faucet .... had the little plastic red/blue button on the spigot ... he looked at me like i was insane ... and said.. that its the hot/cold indicator ... i have approached him many times over the years.. to remind him.. that it was the stupidest question i ever asked anyone... lol .. and trust me.. i have asked a lot of stupid questions.. lol .. congrats on the knee..
