What to do?
My first rose was Julia Child. I planted her before I had any real idea of what I was doing. She's performed well for me and survived three Canadian winters and counting. But -- this year, having learned a lot more, I realize that I have planted her with the graft an inch or two above the soil line. I tried digging her out to replant, but her roots are quite well established, and I was unable to do it without either damaging large roots and/or destroying nearby plants. I let it be. She took quite a hit this winter but seems to have made it - there's still green above the graft.
So what now? Do I try to loosen things enough to sink her down and bury the graft, do I give her a permanent mound, or do I just leave her as is?
