Deere GT225 battery - group size 51- why?

fcarp63April 22, 2010

Hi, just picked up a used GT225 with 15HP Kohler motor. Was suprised to find that it doesn't use a standard lawn & garden utility battery but rather a group size 51 battery (which I believe is used in a Honda Civic).

Other than for cold cranking ability, does anyone know why Deere would put such a large battery in this tractor?

Thanks in advance.

Because it will last years longer if taken care of then the cheap little scooter batteries that come in the dept store brands.
