Can you buy generic air filter foam? Stuff that you add a dab of oil to. TIA

It might be a special type of foam that
won't be effected by the oil. Buy hey,
it's cheap, so go to a craft store and
buy a piece and oil it up and see if it
doesn't melt.

I have use a small sheet of gray foam to make filters that I found at a craft store over 10 years. It appeared the same thickness, texture/grade as in my Poulan chainsaws. It has worked w/o any signs of melting or deteriorating. That is basically w/o oil, except I have cleaned some in naphtha for lawn mowers (normally just compressed air). My theory was what could it hurt (cheap & convenient)? loger

Andy : You can locate Air Filter Medium at any local HVAC (Heating Ventilation & Air Conditioning) Centres or Repair Facilites. I picked up a roll for universal use within Snowmobile , Quads and various other Small Engine equipment . Specify this usage to ensure you get the proper membrane to protect your engine and prevent damage to the material from exposure to petroleum products or
reduce engine performance . I picked up a roll of membrane for under $20.00 bucks approx 12"x24" over 3 years ago .
