Tanaka TBC-255SFK Leaking Fuel

cseyer(USDA 5)July 3, 2011

More like oozing fuel out of the tank at the fuel return line entry. Before I replace the fuel line and the rubber grommet (fuel line is a bit hard, grommet seems fine), I wanted to ask for thoughts. It only oozes under high RPMS, motor runs great. It seems to me that there is high pressure building in the tank causing the fuel to ooze out. Is the fuel cap supposed to vent pressure during running? Is there another problem causing high pressure in the fuel tank? Or should I just replace the grommet?

Replace the grommet and the lines , I had this same problem with another trimmer long ago. The hoses harden(and shrink a little) with age as does the grommet(but at a different rate)..
Ace has the hose, I believe, but the grommet ?
Have fun with finding a grommet. I'd try immersing the grommet in some ATF. Twenty years ago I recall seeing seals swell a lot when lying in spilled ATF..
