Awesome Climber

FriendsSJRoseGardenApril 18, 2014

This is a very popular spot to take photos in the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden.

This climber is 3 years old. It isn't even in full bloom! Still covered in buds.

Not available to the public yet, it will be released in 2015.

IF it is the same climber as in the Huntington that is also "due to be released in 2015", then it is 'Above All'. At the Huntington:

Is that another sport in the Westerland family?

Interesting! I noticed the local rose garden has about 100 of one new rose (no photos on HMF-yet) that is not listed on their website. Guessing a trial to see how it does or to get some good publicity photos for future sales?

Yes, Above All has been released by Weeks Roses this spring. It's available at several on line nurseries and may well be available at a local nursery too.

I have one on order mostly on faith because it is a Westerlands offspring. I'm so glad to see a picture of one full grown, it's as beautiful as i hoped! Can't wait to get it.

according to Weeks it has the same hardiness as Westerland, 5b to 9b but you might want to double check with them.

For those northern gardens wishing for such beauty. There is the Arborose Collection from Kordes . They have excellent repeat and great disease resistance. Most have fragrance. Even thou Westerland is a Kordes rose. It had no live cane after winter here. I grew it as a large shrub. The AC has soft flexible canes that make it easy to use as a pillar rose. They don't have one in that gorgeous color yet. Soon I hope!

I received an email from my nursery today that they'd received 5 of them and didn't know when they'd get more in. I sure wish I had somewhere to put one, they are beautiful. I'm sure the five are already gone though.

Just thought I'd bring Above and Beyond climber back to the top since there are some more questions about it. Diane

Are we talking about Above and Beyond or Above All? I believe they are both new climbers coming out this year.

Above and Beyond appears to be a pale apricot that blooms in large clusters of small flowers being handled by Bailey Nurseries.

Above All seems to be a large flowered orange blend handled by Weeks.

I am confused because the pictures above look like Above All and not Above and Beyond.
