very small leaves, cane dieback

nriqueMay 7, 2013

My mom has a HT in her yard that has formed very tiny leaves on it, and no regular sized leaves. The leaves have all shriveled up. The canes have been green, but now they are starting to die back on the tips. It's on its own roots if that makes a difference. She's tried fertilizing it, but no results yet.

Any ideas on what she can do to save it?

Do you have a picture of the plant? It is much easier for us to diagnose the problem with pictures of it. Otherwise we might as well be shooting in the dark.

The first thing I would suggest would be to water it if the soil is dry. However if you have been watering it regularly, it may be overwatering.

Where did you buy the rose at? And when you bought it, what did the packaging look like?

Please never fertilize an already troubled/stressed plant.
May make things worse. Good luck and I hope you get things figured out.

A gopher may have chewed the roots off, causing death by dehydration. Try rocking the plant or probing for tunnels.
