Do you know what this is?

brer(Zone 7)May 17, 2014

This little wildflower just appeared on my fenceline. I've never seen it before. I tried to discover what it was and the only thing that came close (in my search) was Black Mustard (Brassica nigra) Could you help me identify it.

Pretty sure a wild mustard at least - does look like brassica nigra. Watch it for the season - if it grows quite tall... can get above your head, that's another clue. Seeds will be clustered close to the stem - pea pod-like usually with 4 dark seeds.

I'm curious to know what it is too. It's been showing up in my garden over the last few years and I've also seen it spread its way up and down the highway medians. Looks nice but it seems to like to spread. I thought it might be escaped rapeseed plants, and the spread comes from the planting of all those rapeseed fields for growing seed for canola oil.
