What's a good tire gauge?

exmarOctober 1, 2011

Hi Folks,

Looking to get a tire gauge. I have a "plentitude" of "stick" gauges which start at 10PSI and aren't accurate for small tractor tires. Picked up a "Slime" dial gauge about a year and a half ago which was graduated from 0-60 PSI in equal increments, worked fine, but just noticed that it no longer works.

There's a ton of electronic gauges for not much $$ but are they accurate? Also I'm curious about replacement cost of batteries, probably about twice what the gauge costs new-one of my "not favorite" things about batteries :-).

Probably pick up another "Slime" as it did what I wanted and was probably $15. Just wondered what other folks use.

Thanks for your time,

Ex: Currently use a Auto Meter Tire Guage for low pressure (0-60 psi) applications . It was a little more expensive $33.00 at Walmart , but it has a Stainless stl. casing and stem . I have used numerous other Stick Guages for higher pressure applications from Sears and Canadian Tire normally around $12-$20 buck range . The Slime product for Quads and such should be adequate though .

The one I like to use is actually a Centech digital gauge from Harbor Freight. It seems accurate com pared to my good shop gauge, but it displays the PSI to 10ths of a pound and would be more accurate than the big one in low pressures- say below 10 pounds. Actually, my big one stays on the wall. Just used the HF on volvo this afternoon when I did the fall maintenance.
