Is it worth paying this for Macro irrigation as opposed to Micro?

rdbrya2June 21, 2014

I am getting new landscaping installed in a few weeks and I really want built in irrigation. They quoted me both ways for both the cheaper Micro and more expensive Macro. Of course trying to sell me on the Macro as it is much more efficient, I never have to replace a battery, never have to take timer in during freezes, and should pretty much last a lifetime with little to no issues (this is what they tell me).

The price difference is pretty high.....

For Macro - (Rainbird) - 1" class 200 PVC in an 8-12" trench for insulation, separated by DVFSS flow control valve to allow water to be delivered from pop ups. Valves wired to automatic controller placed on exterior wall. Incluldes rainbird rain sensor which automatically overrides schedule until grounds are ready to absorb water. 3 year parts and labor warranty.
Cost = $4,200.00

OR

Micro - Rainbird exterior wall mount clock and electric valve solenoids.5/8" poly hose sub zoned to spaghetti tubing to each nozzle. Battery operated digital timers to control each zone. 6 month parts and labor warranty.
Cost = $2,800

Do you think its really worth the exta $$$ to get the Macro???

Thanks everyone!!!

Depends upon what plants you have and their layout. Some folks combine macro and micro, each on its own valve.
