Should I lube the bearings on a 25 yr old alternator.?

andyma_gwNovember 1, 2012

I have a 5kw job site gen-set, It has only 50 hours on it, but is 25 yrs old. It is a Coleman with a 10 hp Tecumseh flat head. I don't have a clue as to what sort of bearings the Maxa alternator has, but it must have something at each end. Opinions appreciated. TIA.

There is only one bearing on the alternator. The rotor is pressed onto the tapered stub of the engine crankshaft and the crank journal bearing supports both crank and that end of the alternator.

As for 50 hours, rotor end bearing doesn't need anything unless it's making noise. Usually good for 500 to 1000 hours.
