Connecting 1/4' to 1/2' distribution line - hole size for barb?

trippknightlyJuly 29, 2010

I want to connect a 1/4" poly distribution line to a 1/2" poly line. Hardware store sold me some of these barbed straight connectors to do it:

I opted not to spring for the punch device figuring if I'm careful I can just drill a hole for the barb instead.

But, what size hole to drill?

Thanks.

I meant 1/4 / 1/2 inches not feet (" not ') in the subject line above.

I may be wrong and I have never tried drilling the holes. But I think that a punched hole will seal better. Use a piece of scrap 1/2 inch and try different size drills.
