Has anyone grown Prunus x blireana

hairmetal4ever(Z7 MD)April 15, 2014

ForestFarm offers this - I've never seen it elsewhere. Looks superficially like a "purple leaved plum" P. cerasifera, but seems to have somewhat larger, fuller flowers. I believe its a hybrid between P. cerasifera and P. mume.

Is it worth growing vs the common P. cerasifera cultivars?

Well, OK then.

I like the flowering Prunus, but they all seem to have some sort of health issue.

P. subhirtella (Higan Cherry) seems the healthiest for me, overall, both upright and weeping. Yoshino does OK usually. The Newport and Thundercloud plums are OK but seem to die off suddenly around 15 years of age around here.

I've heard P. mume itself is actually "healthier" than most Prunus as well, but blooms SO early it's freeze prone here from my understanding. Also marginal in hardiness.
