mold in compost

Hi - actually this is more about scraps than compost. I keep a bucket in the kitchen for veggie scraps, which I then put into my soil in trenches. I went away for three days and thought to cover up the container. Now I've come back and yep - there's a huge colony of fuzzy stuff and mold/fungus in the container. Is this bad and should I just trash the whole thing, or can I actually use all the contents in soil outside?? thanks!

That is normal and indicates some fungi are working on digesting those food scraps.

Hi! Thanks - so I had wanted to clarify, is this combo then still ok to put in my soil ? (I'm assuming yes since I have not gotten any protests...) Thanks all!

Yes ... it's perfectly OK to compost fuzzy and spoiled things.

The same thing will happen to those food scraps in the soil. I have seen food scraps that have been buried in soil develop that fuzzy covering as well as food scraps left in a bucket too long. Ma Nature at work.
