Bare root perennials, help workers with disabilites

stlgirl(6a MO)April 18, 2009

I just stumbled across this site:

http://www.freetreesandplants.com/index.html

They say the plants are free, you pay for the shipping ($7.95)of a unit. Looks like a unit includes 2 bare root plants. I've never personally order bare root plants yet I like the fact they are trying to help eliminate nursery waste along with giving jobs to those disabilities. Oh, they also guarantee their stock.

Darn it, I hate when I omit words when typing. Sometimes my fingers can't keep up with my brain. I should have typed "with disabilities" Please bear with me everybody, my allergies got me in a funk.

I found that site a few years ago; didn't get anything from them, but recommended it to a few friends with gardening space. I'll have to check with them and find out if they ever used it.

It is a terrific idea ...

Hi PV,

I myself am not yet comfortable with ordering bare root plants yet if I hear from somebody about how great they are I may be inclined to change my mind. Let me know if you hear anything.

BTW, I came across an old post with some photos of your balcony filled with lovely flowers. You are so talented! I think it is great you have managed to create a green oasis in the middle of NYC.
