I Want To Go Back To The Time When...

Decisions were made by going "eeny-meeny-miney-mo."

Mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming, "do over!"

"Race issue" meant arguing about who ran the fastest.

Money issues were handled by whoever was the banker in "Monopoly."

Catching the fireflies could happily occupy an entire evening.

It wasn't odd to have two or three "best" friends.

Being old, referred to anyone over 20.

The net on a tennis court was the perfect height to play volleyball and

rules didn't matter.

The worst thing you could catch from the opposite sex was cooties.

It was magic when dad would "remove" his thumb.

It was unbelievable that dodgeball wasn't an Olympic event.

Having a weapon in school, meant being caught with a slingshot.

Nobody was prettier than Mom.

Scrapes and bruises were kissed and made better.

It was a big deal to finally be tall enough to ride the "big people" rides at the amusement park.

Getting a foot of snow was a dream come true.

Saturday morning cartoons weren't 30-minute ads for action figures.

No shopping trip was complete, unless a new toy was brought home.

Spinning around, getting dizzy and falling down was cause for giggles.

The worst embarrassment was being picked last for a team.

War was a card game.

Water balloons were the ultimate weapon.

Baseball cards in the spokes transformed any bike into a motorcycle.

Taking drugs meant orange-flavored chewable aspirin.

Ice cream was considered a basic food group.

Older siblings were the worst tormentors, but also the fiercest protectors.

Yep, I remember, daylilydude! Thanks for the memories. May I add a few?

Remember when. . . .

The Fourth of July was the most magical night of the summer, when you got to stay up late, eat popcorn and lemonade, and watch the sky sparkle and boom.

Picking berries on a hot summer day with the cicadas chirring all around was a jungle adventure.

You didn't have a curfew - you had a mother with the lungs of an opera diva who could call you home from the other end of the neighborhood with one shout.

The local pool was the only "watering hole" you knew about.

Making little pots and dishes out of clay from the stream bank was just as fun and educational as any art class in school.

A trip to the flea market was like going to a bazaar in the orient - everything was old, but everything was NEW and INTERESTING, and you could find ANYTHING under the sun.

Counting windmills, or finding the alphabet from license plates, was the main entertainment on the drive to Grandma's house.

A lazy afternoon with the family in Dad's motor boat was the only "fishing trip" you knew.

A trip to the local DQ (Dairy Queen) or Baskin Robbins for ice cream was a big event.

Being allowed to ride your bike out of your neighborhood to the store was a sign of independence and growing up.

Thank you. This was nice to read, especially as I consider staying home, or go out to battle with holiday shoppers. I picked home. I want my daughters to have similar memories. We're going to bake cookies.

Take care,

PS...isn't Ice cream still considered a basic food group? :)
