Any idea what kind of tree this is?

When we moved into our house we were told it was a Japanese Cherry tree but I cannot find anything on the web that resembles it. It has red leaves all year and in the spring has tiny pink flowers.

Thanks in advance!

Your picture isn't the best, a closer detail of the leaves would help. Probably an ornamental purple-leaf plum cultivar along the lines of 'Newport', but a little hard to tell from the photo.

Should add that the tree does not have any fruit.
