Early growth on M. Grandifloras

subtropixApril 22, 2012

This is the earliest I have ever seen M. grandifloras commence new

growth. Usually, this starts in May here. Also, really early to have leaves

on Crape Myrtles. No question here, just a comment on the strange year

For us gardeners.

Things were progressing similarly here until the frost zapped almost everything the other day. Now my entire crape myrtle collection is completely brown and a few small trees experienced noticeable stem die-back.

If the temps start shooting up in a couple of weeks, it would be interesting to see if the crape myrtles bloom in mid-May here?!
