Help ID Mexican Evergreen

RyanMcCubbinMay 26, 2014

I saw this tree in Honduras, Belize, and Cozumel. It looks like some sort of weeping juniper up close as it's leaves were very thin and scale like but it resembled a pine from a distance. I spoke with several native folks while on vacation but no one could tell me what it was. The tree was ubiquitous; mature specimens were very tall. Has anyone come across this? I uploaded some pictures I took of several of the trees to my flickr account in the album "Mystery Tree". I also attached one to this post. Thanks all for the help.-Ryan

looks like some sort of casuarina (possibly c. cunninghamiana) also known as "austalian pine" (though it is not a conifer) or "beefwood".
