Deere GT225 42C deck belt replacement

fcarp63July 12, 2013

Hi everyone, trying to replace the deck belt (known as the secondary belt) that drive the blades.

There is a spring on the deck that need to be removed before the old belt can be removed and then the spring is re-installed after the new belt is replaced.

Does anyone know how to remove and replace that spring? I can't get it to move.

Thanks, FCarp

Check this out:

I have the same tractor and 42C deck, but I have not done this yet so I can't say how hard it is.

I did more research after my initial post and I should have referred to the spring as the "pulley tensioner" spring. I also discovered that there is a special tool called a "spring puller" that would be used.

Can anyone advise on how to prpoerly use the tool and where to find one? It seems that Home Depot doesn't carry it.

Thanks, FCarp

Spring puller tool looks like this and are common. Try a motorcycle shop.

Can also be done with Vise Grips IF you are REALLY careful.
