what are these and are they invasive?

RachaelLemmon(5)May 22, 2014

These 3 little trees are growing on the corner of my property.. now that im trying to learn more about trees Ive been exploring the woods lately to see whats out there and i noticed these. The trunks are smoothe and almost remind me of my ornamental cherry trunk. Anyhow these woods are full of trees that dont belong here , just wondered if anyone could id them. Thanks so much.

Can't be sure. Maybe something in the rose family (Prunus). Serviceberries?

Definitely buckthorn, terribly invasive...you'll want to dig them out while they are small. Larger ones will regrow if you cut them off, so you have to paint with roundup when you cut...there's tons of internet info out there on how to clean up buckthorn properly.
Don't let them get going, if you only have those ones you have time to keep control.

Thanks for the info , guys. There are many in the woods, that's just the ones on the edge of my yard.. Lots of those and the Norway maples. Also there are tons of a similar tree to the buckthorn , but they actually have huge thorns , although I don't know what they are either. Its sad the way these things can take over. I was walking in the woods and happened to follow the trunk of a very tall tree and at the very top there were beautiful pink flowers on it.. Idk if it's a magnolia or a dogwood but either way it's smothered and has no leaves but at the top so high I could barely see the flowers in the sun. :( the maples are crowding out all of the pine trees as well but I'm not able to restore an entire forest.
