Craftsman Lawn Tractor will not move

KenZ22July 7, 2014

I have a 21 year old Craftsman lawn tractor (Model No. 917.255451) with a 14HP Kohler motor and a 6 speed transmission which has been pretty reliable until now.

Yesterday I started it up and put it in gear and, when I let the clutch out, it did not move. I jacked it up and, in neutral, the wheels will turn and, when in gear the wheels will not turn.

The belt to the rear wheels is good and the shifter moves the linkage back and forth. However, one thing stands out - it will go into gear without the clutch being depressed.

Any ideas or recommendations?

would closely check the splines that the driven tranny pulley is sitting on for being worn off and the pulley turning turning freely on the input sgaft - repair as needed.
