Privacy Tree Suggestions

BoDiamondMay 15, 2014

Hi All,
Just moved into new house and need to get a little privacy from a foot bridge that is around 10 feet from the property line and 20-25 feet in the air. I think a 20-25' tall row of trees or hedge would be ideal. I have a 5 foot wide area between the driveway and fence for planting. Neighbors house is 20 feet on the other side of fence. Soil is rocky and drains real fast. I was thinking Hybrid Willows but hear bad things about them, then maybe Thuja Green Giant but there are gaps between them toward the top where I would like the privacy. Are there any other trees I should consider? Area is San Jose, CA. Thanks in Advance.

Look at Lophostemon confertus. Fairly well-behaved for something that grows fairly quickly. Evergreen.

Apparently the city of San Jose has significant tree regulations, even on off-street trees, so check with them thoroughly before you do ANYTHING.

Also check CSU SLO's select-a-tree site to look through the possibilities.
