Cover finished compost?

DerffieAugust 25, 2014

Thanks to help from this forum, I now have a large pile of finished compost. It's sitting in the 3rd bin. We've been getting quite a bit of rain. Will this result in nutrients leaching out? Should I keep it covered?

It is possible for some of the nutrients to be leached out. I would shield it from excessive rain.

Congratulations BTW.

Throwing a cover over the compost will help prevent leaching. If you put your compost bin in new areas of the garden each time, then don't bother: the soil will be enriched.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll lay a few plastic bags over the top of the bin
