Tree ID

nbcreechJune 4, 2014

I need some help identifying a tree. I moved into a house and there is a single tree out by a busy road and if I can figure out what it is I'd like to plant several more as a "barrier". Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's a Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus). As you can see from the latin name, it's closely related to the tender Hibiscus.

Rose of Sharon - Hibiscus syriacus. Sometimes called Althea as well. It's really more of a shrub than a tree, but they can be trained to a small tree form.

For me, they get kinda ugly with age. Nice when young, but do not age well.
