What kind of sapling is this?

funonahondaJune 24, 2014

This sapling just showed up one day, Is this a oak? Should I leave it alone if I wanna keep it or should I thin out some of the stems? Thanks a lot, funonahonda

Some type of red oak, looks like a stump sprout. You can let it grow like that for a little while longer, but eventually you'll want to choose only one of those stems to form a trunk.

Almost looks like you mowed a seedling recently, as in within the last month, with that reddish color it looks like new growth.

When I cut a pin oak volunteer that I can't pull out I usually get a double stemmed resprout for some reason.
