Pruning a Linden Tree

claudia303(5)June 30, 2009

We have 3 linden trees and we think they are in need of being pruned. I have a few questions about pruning. . .

-when is the best time to prune a tree (a linden tree, specifically)?

-because linden's flower should we wait to have them pruned in fall or winter instead of now, summer?

-is it true that linden's need minimal pruning? One of the company's that has given us a quote said that "if everyone had a linden, he'd be out of business." He suggests just trimming the dead branches. We're have another tree that also needs trimming and are thinking of choosing this particular company, but just wondering if we should request more of a trim rather than just the dead branches?

Thanks in advance for your knowledge and advice!

He's right, just remove anything that's dead.

I don't agree. You should prune all lower branches to a height that you can walk under and thin out branches growing straight up from a limb or crossing another. Give it some shape and thin to let grass and other things around it get more sun.
