Bugs eating leaves on water oak

What kind of bug is this? Is it harmful to my tree and how do I get rid of them. Thank you.

try the garden clinic forum ... in case thiz doesnt pop in here ..

unless at least a half of your tree is defoliated.. i wouldnt worry too much about it ... presuming your tree isnt one foot tall ...

a few more facts about the tree will help ...

I'd like to see more pictures. Looks like a tortoise beetle larva of one kind or another. Or some sort of leaf beetle larva.
