How to divide Achillea Moonshine

katefisher(Z7_NorthernCA)August 5, 2008

This is goofy probably but I have to ask. I have two large Achillea Moonshine plants. Both happy and rather large. This fall I want to dig them up and divide but I'm afraid I'm not sure what to do. Just dig the plant up and cut in half or fourths down to whatever sizes I want?

That just seems too simple. Is there more to it?

Thank you.

That's is!!...make sure the plant is well watered the day before you divide....and water well after....and plant at the same depth they were....take as much root as possible and be sure each division has as much root as possilby...
But you already know all that....just whack them up!

When I divide most plants, including A. 'Moonshine', I just dig my spade into the plant in the ground and remove the division. Much less hard on the original plant, and less work as well.

Thank you Linda and Laceyvail.

Well good, I feel prepared now. I love these plants and think it will be fun to have more. Appreciate your time.
