Protecting Roses over Winter

clax66September 24, 2012

I live in Toronto (Zone 6A, that would be 5 in the US).

I planted three Fair Bianca rose bushes this past summer; all are thriving and are still producing roses. I am wondering how best to protect over the winter? I did not receive any instructions from the nursery and I am reading conflicting information on the web. Summer has definitely ended here and it went down to an unseasonable 6 degrees celsius last night (42.8F). Winter temperatures can get down to minus double digits (-20) in January and February:(

Thank you!

Austins are hardy here. I mulch the rose beds, but do not mound or cover them. Mounding promotes canker in this area.
