Avocado Identification

TS91786(9B/Sunset 18)August 14, 2013

I need a little help in identifying an avocado tree that is growing in the front yard of my recently purchased home. I'm hoping there are some avocado experts here that can help. It is definitely not one of the more commonly grown types in this area (Haas or Fuerte). I don't believe the avocado ready for harvesting but this is the largest one on the tree so far.
Thanks in advance.

you might try the fruit forum ...

and maybe there is an avocado forum..

you might have better luck at your county Ag or extension office...

In California, a number of home garden avocados are seedlings planted by a previous resident.

To determine when the avocado is mature, sacrifice a fruit to cut in half: It's mature if the seed coat is brown.
Once the avocado fruit is mature, cut it off the tree, retaining a bit of stem.
To help the ripening process, pop the stem end off and stick the avocado into a closed paper bag. It will be ready to eat in 3 or 4 days.

YOu can also post on the California Gardening Forum or ask your local Master Gardeners. In Sonoma County, the Farm Advisor (what CA calls Extension Agents) is a stone fruit expert, so the MGs here have a good source of info on avocados!
