Bumps on live oak new growth

bkp_80(z7 TX)August 24, 2011

Like the topic says, I noticed these lumps only on the new tree limb growth. Can't find any holes where a bug may have attacked it. I also sliced into one, there pretty soft in terms of wood, kinda like a unripe pear fruit, never found any bugs in it either. Any help or ideas of what to do is always appreciated.

I could not see the picture but I'm guessing the growth are galls. Google and see what you come up with.

Look like insect galls.

Depends upon the kind, but seldom important unless they girdle a twig/branch in which case the portion beyond them dies.

Looks like twig gall from here. Not a big deal, get used to it.
