What tree is this?

savingferrisAugust 23, 2014

Would someone be able to identify this tree for me? I'm in central florida and have been seeing them quite a bit lately. I believe I must have been mistaking them for oak trees up until I really noticed one. They seem to grow wide or tall like an oak depending on the location of other trees around them. Unfortunately the one I saw today was covered in vines; so I just grabbed a small branch to photograph. I cut one of the small green things in half and it had kind of a strong almost minty smell to it.

Im not sure what it is but you will get better responses if you post the question in the "name that plant!" forum instead of the tree forum.

It's a camphor tree... thank you so much! That was gonna drive me crazy. I'm a bit sad to learn they are an invasive species though. Thanks again.
