Kosmos and Kordes

andrearkNovember 24, 2013

First, I want to say that I have only one Kordes. I have 10 Austins because I love the colors available, the fragrance, and the form of the blossoms. Falstaff (a new acquisition) is a good example of what I like.

But having had Kosmos since 8/10/13, I think I would like to try more Kordes plants. Kosmos is still blooming and the bush is full and beautiful.

Are there any of the Kordes that have the form and fragrance of Falstaff and Teasing Georgia?

There are many beautiful Kordes roses. Have a look on HMF for roses bred by the Kordes family. Here is a link to one of them but there are other under the Kordes name as well.

Thanks a bunch Seil.

There are so many by Kordes. I wonder if someone has a personal idea of one
or more that might resemble Falstaff or Teasing Georgia or Lady Emma.

I also want to say, that in my rather long life I have had many hobbies. They always get somewhat old after a year or two. But roses are quickly changing from hobby to passion. They are so challenging that I doubt that I will tire of them.

Thanks for the suggestion and have a great Thanksgiving,

Thanks again,

andrea

some of the fairy tale roses might meet your criteria, as well as some of his climbers like alchemist, aloha hawaii, golden gate, moonlight etc.
Palantine roses has many of both.

Thanks Roserobin.

Actually, Kosmos is one of the fairytale roses. Great suggestion.

Andreark, I think Rosanna is beautiful and I will probably replace Red Eden with it.

Rosarium Uetersen is another very antique-looking pink

Out of Rosenheim is a very RED old fashioned floribunda

Laguna is a deep magenta/pink with a good fragrance which most Kordes roses don't have

Palatine still has a good selection of Kordes Fairytale roses left:

Also, I bought my mom Nahema and it's performed great for her. The fragrance will knock you down. It's not a Kordes, but looks very much like an old garden rose. The photo below are of some of its very first blooms.

Caramel Fairy Tale (Caramella) is close in coloring to Lady Emma Hamilton, but it is not fragrant (to me).

Thanks Racin and Diane.

Gorgeous suggestions. Nahema is the most feminine rose I've seen and I don't have a rose that shade of pink.

And Caramel Fairytale is just yummy. The HMF agrees with your 'nose' and says fragrance is just fair. I think they mean NOT FRAGRANT.

Thanks again all. Now I have some beauties to hunt for.

Be prepared for Laguna & Rozanna to be monstrous growers that only bloom in spring. Many of the Kordes roses will grow out of bounds in your 9b climate.

Thanks Amanda. I will steer clear of those 2. I don't need very large plants.
