Is it okay to stock up on soil for next year?

When is it to early to stock up on potting soil for next year's wintersowing project? I have several rubber-maids to store soil in, in my potting room/gardening tool storage but when should I start getting ready? I'm just worried that storing it away already, it will not be as good as if I bought it, in Fall but at the same time, I'd love to buy a little here and there rather then all in Fall. Any negative down side?

It should work. I always have an open bag of potting soil in my garage, and before I started winter sowing, it wouldn't be unusual for the same bag to stay open and be used over the course of a year.

If you do plan to buy it piecemeal starting now, I'd at least look for sales!
