DIY-ers: Metal Sculpture question

Posted by chateauclubcrest SWOhio (My Page) on

I just purchased a small painted metal sculpture that I would like to put in my garden this spring. Because I don't want the finish to be destroyed the first year, I'd like to put a coat of some kind of protectant on it before it goes outside. I was thinking perhaps some kind of clear spray product. Also wondering if I should perhaps put a coat of car wax on the finished the product.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Many paint companies offer clear coats that will offer protection. Some will be a gloss-others a matte finish. I've found spray enamels tend to work well. Laquers are available also, as well as other types of coatings. The old disclaimer- try out on a small hidden area first to ensure it doesn't affect the primary finsih. A trip to the hardware or craft store is in order. Have fun!!

I simply use the walmart brand of clear spray. But others like Rustoleum and the more expensive brands.
