Removing stains on cast aluminum furniture?

We have a home at the beach. Last summer we purchased black cast aluminum furniture. This spring I noticed white stains on the black finish. Could it be salt? Could it be some sort of mold? It is not gull poop. On the table there are a couple of small spots on the top. Some of the chairs are covered, some have just a few spots. some have none. It seems totally random and not related to exposure to sun (what little we've had this winter in the Pacific NW) It also is more prevalent on vertical surfaces than on horizontal.
I've tried the mild soap as recommended by the manufacturer and it faded the white but is still noticable. It specifically warns against using bleach on the finish. I'm at a loss. Any suggestions will be much appreciated. |

I'm not an real knowledgeable on aluminum but it seems that I've read somewhere that, depending on the casting process used, cast aluminum can have "salts" appear on the surface on the metal. Or perhaps exposure to the salt air at the beach has left deposits or reacted with impurities in the metal? I know that years ago all cast aluminum furniture was painted either white or silver in order to camouflage the salt spots. What to do about it I don't know. Can you just paint over them? |

| i would say it is from the salty ocean breezes. you might try vinegar water to clean it. i know that is suggested for aluminum windows etc but they are not paintd. if not, you might have to sand it and then paint again. |
