My new (old) find for the garden

| I found this old stove several years ago at a local sale. I got it for the bid of $20. The people there could not understand why I wanted it since it was not in perfect condition, but I thought it was special and I could picture it in a garden setting along with a picnic table and other seating. I thought Pap and Grandma could roast hot dogs with the grand kids. My DH and I finally set it up yesterday. I gave it a good brushing and painted it with flat black grill paint. I then sprayed it lightly with alum. paint. I am not quite finished with it, but it is getting there. I want to paint the top piece or at least polish it. The original color for the stove was the standard galv. color (silver) and the top is a bronze color. It is starting to look so neat to me that I might find it a place in the house.
Thank you for looking, and any suggestions about where you might think it should be placed would be appreciated.

I would use it as a mailbox, maybe up on a pedestal. Have a way for the "floor" of the "box" be right at the door height. But first, you'd better see if US mail will deliver to such a recepticle. If it were me, I'd pour a thick concrete footing and embed the feet in it so no one would take it. Hope this is helpful -- Sunny

I think you should post this on the Garden Junk forum also. That's a really active group over there.

I absolutely love that! I bought an old iron stove at an auction for $20 also a few years ago. They thought I was nuts since it had a large crack in it. We put it on one of our porches with a red light in it. Makes a lovely night light for that area! And, since it is flat on top, I put a large plant on top.

I think the hot dog roasting idea is a great one! My grandchildren always want to roast hot dogs and marshmallows. Might as well have something attractive in which to do it. Will be a nice WBFP on those chilly evenings (and they will return). I think I am on a quest to score one for myself, although I doubt I will find one as pretty and ornate as yours!

That is an absolute beauty. I wish I could find stuff that great for $20! I would use some Testors enamel paint to make the detailing stand out. Maybe using one color like a sky blue to paint the little feather looking flourishes or painting them in a rainbow of colors.
