Hi,

Can anyone tell me the name of the statue in this video? The one I'm interested in is the boy standing in front of the white bench playing an auloi (double flute). Do you know where I could purchase a statue like it? Thanks

Here is a link that might be useful: boy with flute

Didn't PAN have the body of a goat or am I confusing him with another character?

I'm thinking 'Pan' may indeed be the title of the piece - I think it may be by a famous artist - but I cannot recall precisely....

You might try using Google's image search w/ keywords like 'garden statue', 'boy with double flute', 'Chicago Botanic statue', etc....

I think the name of the statue is "Pan"

Thanks for all your responses. What I am looking for is the actual name of the statue. If you know where one could be purchased that would be even better. Thanks!

Here's a thought - have you tried contact the Botanic Garden (through their website, maybe?) & asking the name of that statue yet?

It is a Pan figure. The same statue is at the Calhoun mansion in Charleston South Carolina (see photo at bottom of page in the link). I've wanted one ever since I saw it there years ago. I wish I knew where you could buy a copy.
The closest I found with a formal name was:
Pan of Rohallion. I found it on google by searching "Pan bronze fountain."
Pan is supposed to be half goat (satyr) but apparently he is not always portrayed that way, but sometimes as a boyish figure.

This statue is for sale through a wonderful place in Central Massachusetts called New England Garden Ornament. I don't know if this will link or not, but here's where to find it: http://www.negardenornaments.net/item424134.ctlg

It's a very charming piece!

It is not "Pan", he is always depicted as being part goat. I have an old statue of Pan that was once part of a fountain, and he is half goat. Check out this info. http://www.pantheon.org/articles/p/pan.html

Actually, it may very well be Pan -- and he has not always been depicted as part goat (or at least not in very obvious ways). Every mythic image goes through transitions, and cultures will adjust based on their current ideals. Many of the more "sexualized" mythic images were tamed in Europe and the U.S. starting around the Rococco period, and only got tamer in Victorian times. A randy goat-man prone to wildly seducing nymphs was turned into a shepherd boy with "pan-pipes".

I have a photocopy of an etching (from an art book) of Pan in which Pan appears to be just a little boy, with a slight nod to the original figure included in barely visible little nubs of horns on his head.

Well whatever it is, I'm going to make a special little garden with mine. It will be my "Midsummer Night's Dream" garden. it will have fairies and it shall sparkle in the moonlight.
