AS our front yard and house interior is done in an English garden style, we wanted to complement that in the back yard as well. We have a full range Connecticut Bluestone slate patio in an ashlar pattern we're having done, with a pergola we'll be building ourselves for climbing roses and grapes. One half is to be an outdoor family room and an outdoor family room on the other. The family room area is viewable out the large living room window. For the outdoor family room furniture, we decided to go with British Colonial style, of all weather wicker. After looking many places, at Target we found a nice set, but I will be eventually be recovering the cushions in a different Sunbrella fabric. Love the furniture, hate the fabric! For the outddor dining room- we're looking at teak from Smith & Hawken- waiting for the set we like to go on sale... At this point, the slate is doen on one side and the brick back step is complete. The pergola posts are painted and in their brackets. The cut out you see in the slate area for the plants that will go up the pergola posts. I have some pics of the back patio in progress on my online Picture Trail album.

| I noticed you were looking at teak - we recently purchased a gorgeous set of brazilian cherry from this online retailer at rock-bottom prices. I even called the customer service line, and they cut me a deal because I ordered so much ( a huge table and 6 chairs ). Before you go the Smith & Hawken route, I'd check out this stuff. I know they offer teak also, but I really liked the information they were able to provide about Brazilian Cherry being more durable than teak and also a sustainable product (we try to think green!). Good luck. What you've done so far is gorgeous. I'm seeing a lot of victorian revival restorations taking place in my little historic town, and your work looks very similar. |
