Color for Window Box (and Shutters)

I'm not sure I'm on the right forum, but I'll pose my question anyway, because I know you guys can help. I have a large window on the front of our small home, and I'd like to put a planter box below it. Our home is on the river and in a very rustic setting. The exterior color is beige (light tan) and the decks are painted dark brown, as well as the lattice which runs all around the home. My first thought is to paint the planter box brown. I also want to install some shutters on either side of this wide window, which will have the planter box below them. I'm thinking brown for these too. I could get splashes of color with brightly colored flowers. Or, I could choose an "off the wall" color like a beautiful shade of blue for the shutters and planter box, to be really different. What are you thoughts on this -- and your color suggestions?

I'd forgotten how beautiful hunter green can look with tan. Thank you for reminding me, green-zeus. I can definitely see that working.

Chocolate brown and robins egg blue are very popular decorating colors right now...I think that would look very nice. Many colors go with tan... In a couple years you could change it again... Even a red would be a good bright color. patti

| I envision a rich cranberry color. If you're brave enough, try a periwinkle or turquoise and see what you think. My planter box was hunter green and purple on a tan house and looked great. I moved it to my white shed a few years ago:

Teal or a shade of teal. That will make it pop off the brown wall. Pam
