 o
yard swing

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting a nice yard swing (under $500) and would like your opinion/input before getting one.

1. Our yard is sunny and I think a shade canopy on the A-frame would be nice. What sort of material should I look for that's resistant to wind damage? Or is a canopy a bad idea? DH thinks the strong winds we get will rip it or worse, blow the whole swing over.

2. Would wood or metal be a better material? I'm leaning towards cedar or cypress, as we have a teak patio set. Do you have any recommendation on which manufacturer/brand ? I've seen the ones on Lowes, Home Depot and Costco websites, but they don't have any on display in their stores and I'm kinda nervous about buying furniture without parking my butt in it first.

My many thanks!

RE: yard swing

Hi,
My husband and I bought a swing last year in May for my birthday. We live on a lake, someday's it get's pretty windy.
One day the wind was so strong that the wind litterly picked up the swing by the canopy and moved it six inches. The canopy is fixed on top of the swing that you have dials on each end so it's pretty easy to adjust to the wind and amazingly enough, the canopy hasn't torn.
We purchased it at Menards. It's metal which has been powdered coated. It has two seats separated by a table in the middle that has two tempered pieces of glass with 2 cups holders. The cushions are pretty comfortable. It was just over $100. Hope this helps.
