Electric outlet for fountain...hire a pro or not?

I want to put a fountain in this flower bed.

The distance from the bed to the existing outlet on the house is about 300 ft.

Can I just bury an extension cord underground all the way to the house or do I need to get an electrician to install an outlet in the bed itself?
This is where the outlet is on the wall.

I live in northern NJ so it freezes in winter!!
Thanks!!!!!

Hire a pro! Burying a extension cord is not code and possibly dangerous. The outlet in the bed needs to be on a GFCI circuit.

You basically have 2 choices.

1. a proper installed run of Underground Feeder (UF) cable from the house to the bed.

2. A run of conduit with the proper sized conductors to the flower bed.

A stake with a section of conduit and a weather tight outlet box attached to it will have to be installed at the bed.

If you have no knowledge of electrical wiring, hire an electrician to do it.

Thanks that's what I thought.
Do you know is this an expensive job or fairly straight forward?

300ft from the house?! That's quite a distance!

The major cost will be the time to dig the trench since the electrician will be charging for time & materials.
You might ask if you can help save some $$ by digging the trench yourself but for that distance you'd probably have to rent a trencher to get the necessary depth needed.

Get at least two bids...........

ooops!!! You're right it's not 300 ft--its more like 23--(I'm a spaz and I was thinking in terms of ft(shoulda been inches--duh) when I did my calculations and didn't convert right!!)
