What do you use to build twig furniture in zone 9?

I used to make all kinds of fantastic twig furniture when I lived in Michigan. We used common "ditch willow".
Now that I am in the Houston/Galveston area I have no idea what kind of wood to use or where to find it.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
P.S. To give you a clearer picture of my available plants, I am surounded by bayous and palm trees. Think New Orleans. (everybody seems to think Texas is entirely desert and tumble weeds! It's a jungle down here!)
Thank you for your time.

Panpipes,
Why not give some thought to building your furniture out of driftwood. I know that you don't really find much of it there in Galveston. So, you might have to travel down the Coast, but I think you'd be in an excellent place for it! Use what you have available nearby.

No longer a Houstonian, but now I belong to Central Texas... where junipers would be the most available and best choice up here.
