Can I sunproof fabric?? for the gazebo

I know if anyone can tell me, you guys can! I have a gazebo with arched window openings. I would like to take squares/rectangles of material, line them of course and put a dowel at the bottom and top. These will be stationary, not able to roll up, just to add a splash of color at the top of the window frame openings, installed from the inside of the gazebo. Its a rather large gazebo and I do not like the selection nor the price of the outdoor fabrics out there on the market. I'd like to either use some nice fabric (burgundy) that I have left over from my indoor window treatments, or I am a fan of the linen's at the thrift shops and have reused sheets or other materials for indoor projects successfully in the past. I thought I heard about a spray product you can apply to any fabric and it would protect from fading?? What about stiff stuff or modge podge applied to the top? It dries clear but might crack. thank you for your help, karen

I guess you would need ultraviolet protection for it. That's the primary cause of fading in something exposed to the sun. My one nephew does some climbing and he used this stuff called Granger's UV Spray On Waterproofing. I can't tell you what kind of fabrics he sprayed it on though. He said it was for restoring spent waterproofing on water repellant clothes he had, and it was a UV protector as well.
I did a search and found their site. Maybe you can find some answers there.

I bought a UV Block online last year to use on my porch tablecloth and chair cushions. It did a good job of preventing fading. Their web address says it's www.atsko.com

ProtectFabrics.com has a product called SunArmor. Designed for Sun Proofing fabrics for the outdoors. There's a kit that you can purchase also that will water proof the surface as well.

I tried the SunArmor UV product and it works really well, I used it last year on an awning we have in our backyard and it just worked SO well, the matching umbrella is so faded but that awning looks great! We're spraying our patio furniture with it this year getting ready for beach season!
You can buy it on amazon or with free shipping at protect fabrics:

I have used the sunarmor products before as well, and they are fantastic, they not only will prevent the sun from fading your gazebo fabric colors, but they do prevent the damage to the fabric fibers themselves, it stops them from being so brittle and dry. You can read the article I wrote about fabric fading prevention on my blog:

or you can purchase it from www.protectboats.com

My husband and I have been in the professional fabric and carpet cleaning business for 20 years and we found these products called SunArmor Ultra Violet Protection and SunArmor Water & Stain Protection. These products are highly concentrated, extremely effective and our clients love the protection they offer especially outdoors on outdoor furniture cushions. Forget wasting your money on Scotchgard, the dc whatever and the stuff called 303 .. Nothing Compares to these SunArmor Products for the result coverage and price.

RE: Can I sunproof fabric?? for the gazebo

Hi all,
Just was Googling re: Sun/UV protection spray and found this page, but some of the links on here are no longer live.
My specific question is, I just bought some silk fabric for bedroom curtains, but being in Arizona, I am worried about the sun fading the fabric.
What I'm reading about the UV sprays here is they seem more geared to use on heavier fabrics, like canvas, to improve their longevity. What I need is a spray that first of all, won't create spots on my silk fabric, and is generally safe for use on silk (won't eat the fabric, etc), and of course, will help keep the color intact.
I do understand that silk in general won't hold up in the sun as long as say, canvas, but these are indoor curtains.
Any advice?
