Do you use scrap tile for mosaics? If so....

Where do you get them from? Wondering if we could all share ideas/techniques for getting our hands on scrap ceramic tile. I've had hit/miss success with going to local flooring stores/depts.

Any ideas out there?
:-)

I find it at second-hand/thrift stores. Often they have boxes of tiles that were leftover from renovation projects.

I use scrap anything for mosaics......lucky enough to have people drop by stuff and when I come home from work it's like Christmas! Try Good-Will, thrift stores, yard sales, etc........sometimes the hunt is so much fun! Word of mouth is good too! I've had strangers leave me stuff at friends homes or even shops here in my town! whoo hoo

Check with Habitat for Humanity. They have Restore stores in many cities. We have a great one here in Colorado Springs. I have built so many projects from donated building project rejects. I even built a kitchen island from cabinets and countertop purchased there for less than $160. All were new from contractors who didn't need them for jobs. Also, donate your excess or unwanted building supplies. I had them pick up a great workshop counter that had been cutting my kitchen in half before the island! Our Restore has a huge supply of leftover tiles for sale cheap.

I have actually gone to tile shops near my house and asked if they had a place for damaged/broken/trashed stuff. They directed me to behind the building-- a huge dumpster full of beautiful tile pieces, free for the taking. I suggest (obviously) wearing heavy gloves to do the picking.
