I am looking to get good quality patio furniture. I want to know if cast aluminum is all it is cracked up to be as far as quality and durability is concerned.

RE: Cast Aluminum Patio Furniture

I've had a small ornate set for five years now, and last summer and this summer I've noticed "salts" leeching out of the metal??? Now, I don't know if this is possible it's more likely a mold of some sort(small patches of light green to white)which comes off easily by scraping. I just tend to put that chore off for some reason. And no, it didn't always have that green cast. My set is not painted but has a dark bluish patina, to appear antique I guess. It gets afternoon sun, stays wet until the sun hits it, is well made and was expensive. I store it indoors during the winter.

I tried to get a pic of the mold:
